Polly Thayer Starr (1904-2006) was an artist of great scope and insight. Her works captured the culture and whimsy of her native Boston and New England with a unique combination of detail, emotion and wit. Widely exhibited both during her lifetime and after her death, her art is represented in many museums and individual collections. Her estate endowed the Polly Thayer Starr Charitable Trust to permanently further her artistic legacy and to enhance the appreciation and knowledge of other artists whose works are reflective of her life and interests. The Trust owns the remaining collection of Mrs. Starr’s paintings and drawings, as well as archival materials related to her long career. The Trust does not accept unsolicited requests for support.
Visitors may notice that many of our images, even of oil paintings, are in black & white, because they have been taken from photographs in the artist’s collection which pictured works sold during the course of her long career. We are not seeking to purchase Thayer’s work, but would be delighted to know of its current whereabouts, and also to have access to accurate color photographs for our archives. If you are the owner of one of more of her pieces, we would be pleased to hear from you. Please contact Dorothy Koval to share photographs or information about the location of works by Polly Thayer (Starr), or to request further information. Thanks!
